Only Ideal Home…

After last week’s rant about the merits of cheap design, I ranted so much I gave myself a migraine! So this week, I will go back to being my happy carefree self and try my best to look at all areas, whether they be bargain or gold-plated.

Ideal Home have sent through a rather interesting guide to dining chairs including these 2 lovely beauties…

Only Ideal Home could put 2 chairs from deeply differing price ranges, right next to each other on a page. Congrats! Incidentally, I like them both, but what with my budget being rather constrained these days, I’m going to end up buying neither.

Oh and if you hadn’t already guessed, the second chair is from the Orla Kiely range. And worse still, it’s £45 more expensive on the Heal’s website…

An exhibition celebrating the best of Guinness advertising will be held from 19th August to 25th October at the Museum of Brands, Packaging and Advertising in London.

What doesn’t surprise me about this is that Guinness are holding an exhibition of their world famous advertising. Having been to Dublin, a visit to the brewery was top of the list for this reason alone (I can’t actually stand Guinness itself). What does surprise me whoever it that there is a whole museum dedicated to Brands, Packaging and Advertising!!!  Definitely worth a visit.

I am a huge fan of vintage advertising and did collect the postcards for many years until I found that I could get every vintage advert possible, available on disc. (WARNING! SHAMELESS PROMOTION COMING UP.) The images are of high enough a quality to print onto canvas etc, and therefore a very cheap way of decorating your home! If you fancy buying a disc for only £4.99, please pop onto my auction on eBay for more details. Plus, 10% of all sales go direct to the British Heart Foundation, so treat yourself and help save lives in the process.

It’s officially the end of term hooray! KLC decided to send all us students a ‘have a nice holiday’ and ‘by the way you have a mock exam in September’ email.

Oh dear.

Something tells me I’m going to spend the summer reading up on the History of Design as well as fretting about the fact that Project 3 will never end. SORRY! I’m supposed to be being positive again aren’t I?!

What I meant to say was, I relish a challenge and enjoy reading anyway, so it shouldn’t be too much of a chore…
